Sustainability policy

Weavering Warriors Rugby Football Club acknowledges that our actions can impact the local, regional, and global environment, whether directly or indirectly. We are dedicated to minimising any adverse effects on the environment and fostering awareness of sustainability in its widest sense.

1. SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT

Weavering Warriors Rugby Football Club (WWRFC) is dedicated to becoming a socially and environmentally conscious sports organisation. We are committed to implementing positive changes aimed at reducing our environmental footprint across all club activities. WWRFC actively explores new opportunities and technologies to support our sustainability goals and lead by example for our members and all those we engage with. While we are a small, locally focused, amateur sports club and unable to directly join the UN’s Sports for Climate Action Framework,, we closely follow its insights and calls to action. The Sports for Climate Action initiative urges sporting entities to recognize the sports sector’s impact on climate change and emphasises our collective responsibility to work towards climate neutrality for a safer planet.

2. RECYCLING

Whenever feasible, waste products are recycled to diminish the quantity sent for incineration or landfill disposal. WWRFC commits to yearly evaluations of all waste collection services employed to facilitate this endeavour. Through ongoing monitoring, we strive for continual improvement, aiming ultimately for zero waste destined for landfill or incineration. Recycling bins for segregating food waste, glass, cardboard, and general recyclables will be readily accessible. We urge all club members and visitors to utilise the designated bins for proper waste disposal.

3. WATER USE

We seek to reduce water waste across all points of usage in our venues and in our training and playing activities. We consistently review and check for water wastage in our activities and make adjustments to our policies and procedures.

4. CLEAN/RENEWABLE ENERGY

We consistently review our suppliers so as to be signed up to a tariff that provides environmental benefits, seeking to ultimately ensure our power is sourced through zero carbon energy sources.

5. ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Upon reaching the end of their lifespan, we prioritise selecting energy-efficient alternatives for replacements. For instance, transitioning to LED lighting throughout our premises. Moreover, we promote energy-saving habits among both staff and patrons, such as turning off lights and appliances, and optimising the use of heating and cooling systems. We implement appropriate signage and guidance in strategic locations to prompt everyone utilising our facilities to embrace energy-conservation practices.

6. SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT

We encourage our players, members and supporters to lift share and travel in groups to all fixtures where appropriate, including to training sessions and group events. We seek to install bike rack storage points at our facilities which are free to use.

7. LOCAL HABITATS

In any modifications to our facilities and venue, we prioritise avoiding harm to the natural environment. We commit to preserving sections of our site untouched to support wildlife habitats and foster biodiversity among plants, animals, and birds. Maintaining cleanliness and freedom from litter is paramount, with a commitment to promptly tidying up after matches and events to prevent litter from spreading to local areas and waterways.

8. FOOD AND DRINK

We aim to collaborate with catering providers who have demonstrated their environmental commitments. This involves initiatives like minimising food waste, sourcing seasonal British products, and decreasing beef consumption. Additionally, we strive to enhance the variety, quality, and quantity of plant-based and plant-forward meal options offered at our venue.

9. SINGLE-USE PLASTICS

We are actively striving to phase out single-use plastic, facilitated by the adoption of environmentally friendly cups and utensils. To encourage sustainability, we offer complimentary water refills to all facility users, enabling them to replenish their own bottles. Where feasible, we utilise post-mix soft drinks, and all bottled beverages are packaged in Recycled PET. Moreover, our kitchens are committed to avoiding plastic cutlery, sauce sachets, straws, stirrers, and food containers.
